A History of White City Amusement Park at Tulpehaking Nature Center
James Colello, Jr., local historian and author of “Let's Go to the White City”, offers a never-before-seen glimpse into the twenty-year history of an amusement park that provided both the young and old alike with wonderful memories at the beginning of the 20th century. Enjoy the fascinating history of the park dubbed as the Coney Island of New Jersey, located in what is now the Spring Lake area of Roebling Park in the Abbott Marshlands.
For those that are interested, the talk will be followed by a walk over to where the amusement park once stood, featuring what remains of the original staircase. The walk will be from approximately 2-3 pm and is about a mile on a mostly flat trail with one moderate slope from the Nature Center parking lot to the trailhead. Registration is needed; the talk will be held rain-or-shine, with the walk contingent on good weather.
