Harvest Homecoming at Historic New Bridge Landing
Come celebrate fall with the Bergen County Historical Society at their Harvest Homecoming on Sunday, October 26th 1 pm- 4:30 pm at Historic New Bridge Landing.
All three 18th century Jersey-Dutch sandstone houses including the state historic 1752 Steuben House will be open for tours throughout the day.
On display for viewing in the Steuben House will be new exhibits from the society’s extensive collection including Revolutionary War artifacts.
Stop by the Westervelt-Thomas barn to see broom making and corn shelling demonstrations.
Visit with Scott Lance a reenactor and carpenter by trade, who will be talking about the 18th century craft of woodworking and giving demos during the afternoon.
See the blacksmith on site to see what kind of wares he is making.
Do not forget to visit the society’s authentic Jersey-Dutch out-kitchen where BCHS interpreters will be firing up the outdoor bake oven to prepare a selection of apple themed treats including apple hand pies, apple galette, and an apple cake.
Take a peek at the treasures in the gift shop while you enjoy donuts, hot cider and other fall refreshments which will be available for purchase inside the tavern.
Activities for families include scarecrow making, free pumpkin picking and decorating, a taste-testing of a variety of apples, and new this year the Treat Trail come in costume and visit each historic house for a special treat.
Ticket reservations are encouraged: $12 adults, $7 students, BCHS members free.
Free parking available on site or take the train to “New Bridge Landing” station on the Pascack Valley Line.
Dogs are permitted on site on a leash but not in the houses.
