Mary Ann Hubschman honored by the Fort Lee Regional Chamber of Commerce

Mary Ann Hubschman, owner/director of Palisades Preschool & Kindergarten, is being honored by the Fort Lee Regional Chamber of Commerce as a “2015 Person of the Year” in recognition of her 50 years in the business of early childhood education.

In September, 1965, Mary Ann Hubschman and her husband, Richard designed and built a preschool named “Humpty Dumpty Nursery School” in Fort Lee, NJ.  It was the only local school of its kind built specifically for the young child.  “Now known as Palisades PreSchool & Kindergarten, the school’s educational philosophy still focuses on the intellectual and social growth of each child,” states Mary Ann Hubschman.

Over the years, many parents having moved to communities north of Fort Lee, were requesting that Palisades Preschool continue its success by opening another school closer to their new homes. In September, 1994 Palisades Country Day School, in Closter, NJ opened with an annex quickly following.

Mary Ann decided some years later that learning and fun should not end simply because summer arrived.  It was then she opened Palisades Country Day Camp in Closter, NJ complete with 3 swimming pools, 3 wading pools, a splash park and many activities, special performances and events.  Palisades Country Day Camp is ACA accredited and has a program specially designed for the toddler through 1st grade.

In celebration of the Fort Lee school’s 40th anniversary, coupled with a strong desire to give back to the community, the Hubschman’s donated a children’s library in the Joseph M Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack Medical Center.

As philanthropists, the Hubschman’s offer scholarships to families in financial need.  They also sponsor and donate through the schools monthly “Make a Difference” program making collections for the benefit of local charities.

“50 years is an amazing milestone,” Mary Ann Hubschman shares, “I’m always overjoyed when past alumni return to our schools with their own children and share fond memories of their own first school experience!”
