New Jersey Association of Special Education Partner Schools (NJASEPS)
The New Jersey Association of Special Education Partner Schools (NJASEPS), formerly known as ASAH, is a nonprofit organization representing New Jersey’s private special education schools. Since 1974, NJASEPS has partnered with public school districts, state agencies, and communities to promote excellence, equity, and collaboration in special education across the state. Its member schools provide highly specialized services to more than 10,000 infants, children, and young adults with disabilities, including autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, Down syndrome, learning disabilities, communication disorders, physical disabilities, and mental health and behavioral disabilities.
As an association, NJASEPS fosters partnerships between member schools, local school districts, and communities to ensure students are educated in the least restrictive environment and, when appropriate, supported in transitioning back to public school settings. The organization provides resources and referrals to anyone seeking appropriate placements and advocates for programs and policies that protect and enhance the well-being of students. By promoting effective practices, informed policy, and strong partnerships, NJASEPS enhances outcomes and quality of life for individuals with disabilities and their families.
Across the state, NJASEPS’ 130+ member schools deliver a full range of specialized supports to prepare students to be fully participating members of their families and communities. Services include: community integration and community-based instruction; therapies and related services; school-wide and individualized positive behavioral support; parent education programs and support groups; extended school year instruction (ESY); very small classes with individualized instruction; transition services that guide students from school to adult life; college preparation; community-based work experiences; formal and informal “linkages” to adult service providers for students who will need ongoing support and services as adults; and mobility training.
