Chapel Hill Academy’s curriculum and classrooms are designed to provide a comprehensive education tailored to meet the needs of — and focus the strengths of — each student. Their flexible curriculum adapts to the specific goals and objectives in each of their students’ Individualized Education Program (IEPs).

The challenging curricula are fully aligned with New Jersey’s Common Core Standards, and include instruction in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Social Studies, Drama, Art, Music, Health and Physical Education.

Their Learning Disability Teacher Consultant (LDTC) meets with all new students to identify the most appropriate class placement based on academic levels, learning style, and peer groupings. The process includes a review of formal records, informal math and literacy assessments, observation, and consultation with the student’s counselor. Students are also assessed 2-3 times a year to ensure continued progress.

Classrooms are comprised of 8 to 12 students, with a highly-qualified certified teacher of students with disabilities and a teacher’s assistant. Many are multi-graded to meet a child’s learning needs. All academic classes are scheduled to meet each child’s specific learning needs.

CHA’s Gifted and Talented Program ensures students at every level are challenged and can extend academic abilities.

Students who need significant academic supports benefit from remedial instruction with the Learning Disabilities Teacher or Reading Specialist for additional support.

The majority of our students graduate and go on to higher education, and college preparation and entrance test prep classes are available.

Students in our high school program may also pursue Certificate Programs to ensure that they are job-ready.

Social skills learning is infused throughout the day at Chapel Hill Academy. Formal social skills classes follow the UMDNJ Social Decision Making and Problem Solving curriculum and provide students with opportunities to role play, and interact with their peers in a fun, informal setting.

Chapel Hill Academy’s instructional strategies are time tested, and continually infused with new insights and knowledge through education and training provided for teachers and staff.
