The summer camps of School of Rock in Montclair don’t just give kids an awesome learning, confidence-building, and performance experience - they also allow them to share their excitement about the music that they’ve learned with their moms and dads. This enthusiasm builds newfound ties that last for a lifetime.

“When parents hear their kids perform songs from the 70s, 80s, and 90s at our summer camp weekend concerts, their tears flow like you wouldn’t believe,” says Kevin March, General Manager of School of Rock Montclair. “This music was the soundtrack of their youth, so when their children embrace it as their own, the shared passion creates incredible common ground that evokes a roomful of joyous emotional responses.”

This year’s weeklong School of Rock Montclair summer camps offer a variety of themed repertoires, including the greatest hits of Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Green Day, soul music, and more. Each week, the campers are grouped by their level of musical experience as well as their age (7 to 11 years old, 12 to 17 years old). They then rehearse set lists for their chosen themed concerts from Monday through Friday. On Saturday, the campers perform what they’ve learned at live events in front of hundreds of friends and relatives at Just Jake’s in Montclair, which is one of northern New Jersey’s premier music venues (it’s also a great restaurant/bar).

“Along with making new friends, improving their musical skills, and having fantastic videos and photos of their experiences to share on social media, campers will have a fun way to connect with their parents and learn how cool they really are,” says March. “The songs that kids discover at our camps often becomes some of their favorite music, and they love listening to it with their parents at home, in the car, and at concerts when the bands come to the area.”

In addition to offering themed summer camps for kids with backgrounds as musicians (vocals, guitar, bass, drums, keyboard), School of Rock Montclair will also offer Rock 101, which is a camp for younger kids (ages 6 to 10) who have zero music experience.
