The Atlantic City Free Public Library will celebrate the Chinese New Year, which officially begins Jan. 31 and is the Year of the Horse, with special programs.

One of the highlights will be a performance by the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. at the Main Library.

The Nai–Ni Chen Company fuses traditional Chinese dance with innovative modern influences. The New York Times once described the group’s dynamic and colorful performance to be “like endlessly proliferating forces of cosmic energy.” The award-winning group has performed many national and international tours.

The library will also offer a couple of craft programs in celebration of the Chinese New Year:

  • Fun Day Sunday: Dragon Masks and Lanterns on Sunday Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. – Participants will create paper lanterns and dragon masks from construction paper. Registration is required. Call (609) 345-2269, ext. 3050, or visit the Main Library’s Youth Services Department.
  • Creative Craft Tuesday on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 3:30 p.m. – Children ages 6-12 will have the opportunity to make a unique Chinese New Year-themed craft.
