Ground Hog Day, Maple Sugaring, Winter Hikes and More

 
Sunday is Ground Hog Day (please, please, please Phil - please don't see your shadow!), which, here at NJ Kids, has us dreaming about Spring. But even if the temperatures outside still scream winter, there are plenty of Nature activities going on this weekend to get the whole family enjoying the nippy weather. At Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center in Chatham, it's time for their annual Maple Sugar demonstration - come learn about the entire process of making maple syrup, then taste different varieties.   In Plainsboro, the Plainsboro Preserve offers interactive readings of children's books coupled with either a nature craft or a live animal show every Saturday through 2/22, while at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morristown, it's 'Winter's Day on the Farm'- experience a day-in-the-life on the farm, and see (and try) traditional, winter-season farm activities. And, of course, you can celebrate Ground Hog Day at both the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Reserve in Pennington - learn about these furry weather forecasters, take a hike, make a craft and enjoy a warm beverage by a fire - and at Imagine That! in Florham Park kids can make a Ground Hog craft.   And that's the just the start - for more great nature ideas, don't forget to check out our website at njkidsonline.com .
