I recently decided to take a trip back to Round Valley Recreation Area in Lebanon, NJ.  It was a family favorite when I was a child and I haven’t been back in over 15 years. It is a great alternative to beach for families with small kids.  It is inexpensive to get in, only $5 on weekdays and $10 on weekends per car. They have a really nice sandy beach area on the reservoir. It is great for toddlers and young children as there are no waves to contend with and it is stays shallow for a long way out. The bottom is sandy so no water shoes needed. The beach area has lots of shaded areas available for those of us preferring to get out of the sun.  Swimming is permitted from Memorial Day through Labor Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. while lifeguards are on duty. Other benefits include changing areas, restrooms, showers, a first-aid station, and a concession building where food and beach supplies are available for purchase. There are two playgrounds and volleyball nets on the beachfront. Inner tubes, rafts and other flotation devices are not permitted in the swimming area. Only Coast Guard approved life jackets are permitted.  There is also hiking, boating, and camping available at this location.
