Playgrounds will cater to people of all ages with sensory, physical and psychological needs. Here is a list of wonderful playgrounds with universal access, some with ground-level play features, ramped play equipment, as well as other accessible equipment. Although not all are classified as Playgrounds for All, the ongoing programs to comply with access requirements and safety standards will soon lead to more friendly playgrounds. NORTH JERSEY PLAYGROUNDS

All Access Playground At Central Park Of Morris County

91 Central Ave., Morris Plains (Morris County) Morris County Park Commission’s first fully accessible outdoor athletic facility. Kids swings, slides, music stand, and crawl tunnels, and accessible to children in wheelchairs so that they can play alongside their friends and siblings. The complex includes two regulation-size in-line skating rinks, a fully accessible Challenger League ball field, sand volleyball courts, softball field, artificial turf fields, a 5K cross-country course, 5-acre dog park, natural amphitheater, disc golf course, and miles of paved and natural trails.

Edgemont Park All Children’s Playground

20 Edgemont Rd. Montclair (Essex County) Full playground offers universal access for children of all ages and abilities. Rubber ground cover, spider web structure, and slides, a smooth surface throughout enough for a wheelchair, ramps, visually impaired play components including Braille panels and interesting textures and fragances, low platforms where those using wheelchairs can lift themselves out onto playground equipment, accessible swings with high backs and harnesses. One of the biggest playgrounds in the area.

Monmouth Court All Inclusive Playground

26 Monmouth Ct, Livingston (Essex County) Opened in 2015, a playground completely enclosed fenced in area equipped with a rubber-surface, this all inclusive playground is handicap accessible featuring a shaded play area for toddlers, swingsets for all ability levels, and play equipment for ages 8 and under.

Phil Rizzuto Boundless Playground

594 Morris & North Aves, Union (Union County) A10.4-acre recreational area features a fully accessible boundless playground for children of all physical abilities. The park is decorated with baseball themes, a baseball-style seating area, gazebo with stadium-theme overhead, and granite dedication monument. Other attractions include a spray pool, pedestrian bridge, soccer field and para-course fitness

Van Saun County Park

216 Forest Ave, Paramus (Bergen County) One of the largest playgrounds in the area with 4 different structures and multiple-age play areas. Features an inclusive playground with handicap accessibility. Ramps, bridges, tunnels, slides, and playthings, sprinkler, picnic areas. Spend the day and visit the zoo, carousel, and splash pad sprayground nearby.

Votee Park

1097-1235 Palisade Ave, Teaneck (Bergen County). Fenced-in, colorful playground is 100% wheelchair accessible.The main play structure geared for children 5-12 years incudes 7 different slides, a variety of climbing events, balancing floating stones and log roll, upper body challenges, wheelchair ramps, transfer stations and an assortment of play panels to stimulate imaginative play. For 2-5 years, ground level play panels, spring animals, climbing animals, a fire truck and balance beams are available for imaginative and stimulating play. Colorful accessible, tot, and belt swings are placed on the perimeter of the playground. Also a ground swimming pool, children’s wading pool, amphitheater, soccer fields, baseball fields, tennis courts, 2 paved walking paths.

South Mountain Recreation Complex & Children’s Regatta Playground

9 Cherry Lane, West Orange (Essex County) The playground is inspired by the nearby reservoir which is an attraction all to itself; surrounded by a 1.7 mile walking path which is handicap accessible and leads to several trails. The playground with nautical themes features a ship that centers a large playground with wave-like rubberized safety surface and a series of play equipment designed to look like boats. A large open area with a synthetic grass surface and stamped concrete pathways link the playground to the nearby Clipper Pavilion picnic area and paddle boat launch. Spend the day and visit the Turtle Back Zoo next door.

Branch Brook Park Children’s Playground

Newark (Essex County) Opened in 2015, inside the county park, located adjacent to the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center. Designed with a cherry blossom theme to match the Japanese flowering trees. Park features play figures in the shapes of lions and lion cubs, playground apparatus and swing sets appropriate for children ages 2 to 5 and ages 5 to 12, a rubberized safety surface. Visit the Children’s Garden too! Branch Brook Park is known having the largest collection of Cherry Blossom trees in the

Us. Special Needs Playground

16th Street, Bayonne (Hudson County) Dedicated area to families that have children with special needs.” Features include rubberized sufaces, special swings which protect children, four foot decorative fence all aroound. Wheelchair accessible “Beat Club” musical activities featuring plastic drums, “talk tubes”, “music time”, “babble flowers”, “Tot bongos” and “Thunder Ring”, with one slide, and climbing on either side. Game boards along the structure. For ages 2-5 and depends on disability. Opened in 2015.

Morris-union Jointure Playground

360 Central Ave, New Providence (Union County) Open to the public on weekends and after 6pm weekdays. Playground, specially designed for children with special needs, features swings with high sides, platform swing, adjustable height basketball court, enclosed slides, reduced-height climbing bars, cushioned with a 15-inch carpet of wood chips. Located adjacent to the Developmental Learning Center (DLC).

Memorial Park

713 Cumberland St., Westfield (Union County) Built by Greg Ryan, Jr. in 2004 for his Boy Scout Eagle Project, the wheelchair-accessible playground includes a sidewalk from the parking lot to a ramped playground structure with rubber surfacing, two infant, two regular and four special needs swings, one accessible picnic table and four benches.
